Considering this and how vuln’s end-effect is calculated Exploit becomes the clear winner. Minions receive 100 of your vuln damage, unlike most other stats. Barb thorns build may also be easy, but you'll still need to manually chase down and kill casters. Exploit is by far the stronger of the two even after the vuln nerfs. The first char will have to do a LOT of the dungeons to unlock all of the codex stuff, and it's significantly easier with passive builds like pet/zoo. I'm actually toying with the idea of making my first char a Necromancer, just for the sake of low-impact, easy play. But if you heavily invest in perks (such as the one that caps damage from any source to max 25% of pet's health, meaning it takes a minimum of 4 different hits to kill even your weakest minions), you'll be fine. Since then Blizzard said they will nerf the pets a bit, so they will die more. But beyond that, it was freakishly strong.
The only thing was, some boss fights lacked a source of corpses, so you gotta build with that in mind. You didn't need to worry about boss mechanics or anything. In beta it was BY FAR the easiest to solo with, you just walk into the boss room, your pets go to work, and you just buff/rez them as needed and stand back, and they'll get the boss down really, really fast.
