You also need to buy peripherals like a good monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset and a desk (and a sick gaming chair/s). Again it's not cheap especially in this economy. So I guess if you want to play PC save up and buy one that will last you a while. But if you want to play with friends or play online games in general you really can't beat PC. If you are only planning on playing a single player experience then by all means take the cheaper route and get a PS5. Ad in the ability to listen to music, have a browser open to tab out for Google or YouTube and it is really something that destroys the need for a console. Steam sales, epic games monthly free games where you get actual triple A games FOR FREE as well as websites like G2A where you can get games for cheap its really the most bang for your buck. As well as being able to play almost any game besides some exclusives with many having full mod support us just something that really kills consoles for me now. Being able to plug in, update your drivers, download steam, discord and a game and start playing with friends without dripping another $60 on a subscription is the best feeling ever. Play pretty much every game on ultra settings at 1440p 165hz on a 32 inch monitor pumping a solid 100-150+fps is an experience that you can't get with console.
I7 10700kf, RTX 3070, 16GB ram, 5tb of hard-drive space and liquid cooled through an AIO. Limited games, shitty sales and discounts on games I don't care about and the pay wall to just play with friends.
I have been a playstation owner since the PS1. I look at having a system that can game and get you an education more important than. I bought mine for gaming buy I also use it to complete my college courses. If you are using it for school work too then yes get a good gaming PC. EDIT:I just read the ending of your post again.
